The NFL came down hard on the New Orleans Saints.

Saints head coach Sean Payton has been suspended for one year, former defensive coordinator Gregg Williams was suspended indefinitely, general manager Mickey Loomis was suspended for eight games and fined $500,000 individually, the team was fined $500,000 and lost two second-round draft picks in 2012 and 2013 as a result of a bounty program conducted by the team during the 2009-2010 season.

Williams, now with the St Louis Rams, admitted to the bounty system and apologized for them. Coach Payton and GM Loomis also apologized, a week after reports surfaced on the issues.

There is no indication on who will replace Payton for the 2012 year.

The team has also failed to lock up quarterback Drew Brees to a long-term extension.
